The Business Impact Analysis (BIA) is the foundation or backbone of any resiliency program, or, at least, it should be if done correctly. There is a wealth of useful information which can be derived from a properly executed BIA. Information which has much more value beyond just continuity and disaster recovery planning. A BIA will make the difference between a fully developed, robust continuity or disaster recovery plan, and either a poor or mediocre one. A Greek philosopher once said “The only constant is change”. Therefore, the BIA should be refreshed, at a minimum, every 12 to 18 months. Resiliency Solutions has developed a propriety online information gathering tool which expedites the process while insuring its quality. This allows us to provide great value without sacrificing quality. Click here to see a sample of our BIA Survey.
Simply stated, continuity planning is how an organization prepares the human or operational aspect for unforeseen, unscheduled future event or calamities that could jeopardize the organization's core mission and its long term health (life or death). Our plans are based upon industry generally accepted practices or guidelines that include NFPA, ISO, BSI and FEMA, to name a few. These practices, coupled with our real world experience in preparedness planning as allowed us to craft and continually refine a plan structure that is easy to understand and follow while optimizing its effectiveness.
Disaster Recovery Planning revolves around the technology portion of your organization's resiliency efforts. Plans are focused on the recovery and timely availability of critical technology - such as hardware, applications, data and communications - which are required to support key functions. Similar to continuity planning, a solid disaster recovery plan requires a sound business impact analysis to determine recovery time and objectives.
Much like our bodies, program/plan exercises are designed to strengthen your resiliency programs through heightened awareness, familiarization, practice and identification of potential developmental areas. Exercises come in many different levels with the most common of these being Tabletop Exercises. Tabletop exercises are proven to be a very effective while minimizing the time impacts upon key personnel within your organization. We work closely with key point(s) of contact to develop realistic scenarios that are customized for each client and situation.
Today so many organizations are attempting to do more with less. We are all aware of the term ‘lean and mean’. Unfortunately resiliency programs are often neglected and ultimately fall victim to this approach to managing organizations. Of the minority of organizations that are currently operating today who have actually taken time to take on the challenge of developing continuity and disaster recovery plans, most of them have fallen victim to the ‘lean and mean’ mentality. We offer a very cost effective alternative to assuring that your program/plans are current and viable when you need to depend upon them. There are two activities that are involved in a sound maintenance approach. These are: 1) Information and program update and BIA refresh and 2) Program/Plan Exercises. |
